    Guava Margarita

    This Guava Margarita recipe is a perfect summer tequila cocktail – a typical margarita taken up a notch with sweet flavor from guava nectar for a little something extra. It has a unique sweet tropical twist that's so refreshing for warm days, happy hour, taco Tuesdays, or any day in between.

    Ingredients

    This guava cocktail is great because it just takes a few ingredients:

    • Tequila: tequila blanco is classic for margaritas. If you want a little smoke you could use mezcal. 
    • Guava nectar: basically a more concentrated guava juice - more flavor and a bit sweeter. If you can only find guava juice that’ll work just fine. 
    • Lime juice: fresh lime juice makes all the difference. If you must buy from the bottle, make sure it’s one of the brands that’s 100% juice and no additives. 
    • Orange liqueur: something like triple sec, cointreau, etc. 

    Instructions

    Just as simple as putting all the ingredients into a cup and just like that you'll have a delicious cocktail!

    Prep: juice the lime(s).

    1. Combine all ingredients in a glass. Fill a glass with ice cubes and add the tequila, guava nectar, lime juice, and orange liquor. Stir to combine!

    Tips and tricks

    This is such an easy guava margarita recipe but here are a few tips, tricks, and alternatives to try to make sure it's your perfect margarita

    • Don’t add ice until you’re going to drink it! You don’t want the ice to melt and water it down. 
    • Instead of mixing in the cup you could alternatively add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker and pour into the cup
    • If you taste it and want it a bit sweeter, you can add some simple syrup or agave nectar but definitely taste it first as the guava juice adds a bit of sweetness
    • Serve with a fresh lime wedge or lime slice for a little flare! To get a full slice on the glass cut at least ¼" slice of lime and then make a slit towards the center (but be careful to not hit the center as that'll likely cause it to split)
    • If you can't find guava nectar, guava juice or guava puree are both fine
    • Add a salt rim to the glass! Take a slice of lime around the rim of each glass glass and then dip it in some kosher salt - you want to use a coarse salt for rimming a margarita glass which is why kosher is preferred
    • You don't need any special margarita glasses for this, any regular glass or even a mason jar works!
    • Make this a spicy guava margarita by adding some jalapeño slices – they'll make the drink spicier as they sit so prep accordingly (if you want it spicier, put them in the tequila advance of drinking the margaritas and let them sit for a little while)
    • While this is an on the rocks margarita, you can make it a frozen guava margarita by adding it to a blender with the ice until your desired consistency is reached

    What is guava nectar?

    Guava nectar is basically a thicker guava juice that's made from "squeezing" the pulp of the guava fruit.

    Where are guavas from?

    Originally Central and South America but now also grown in Hawaii, California, and Florida.

    Is this guava margarita gluten free?

    Yes! 

    Can I make this into a batch margarita?

    Sure can! Multiply by 12x (or however many you need) and pour into a large pitcher. 

    Can I use margarita mix and add the guava juice? 

    I’d recommend staying away from margarita mix, there’s usually a bunch of additives and they are overly sweet. 

    What does on the rocks mean?

    On the rocks just means over ice (as opposed to blended)!
